Rental Car Driving Tips
Tasmania is a relatively small island and travelling distances are relatively short. However there are a large amount of attractions to stop and see so we recommend that you allow plenty of time to travel to your destination.
Because Tasmania is a mountainous island roads can be twisty and are often single lane. This means that you may take more times to travel a certain distance than you are accustomed to.
The roads are generally good to excellent. In seasons other than summer ice and snow can be a hazard, particulary in the mountains and on the west coast. In rural areas livestock are sometimes moved on foot by way of road network. Wildlife can be a hazard from early dusk through to the morning.
Speed limits are posted, however they are generally 50kmh in built up areas and 100kmh on the open road. Speed checking radar and cameras are in use throughout Tasmania. Mobile random breath testing is conducted by Tasmanian police.
Our staff will help you adjust the seat and steering positions on your car at the time of pickup. They will also explain any safety procedures as well as give you specific advice including touring maps on your driving plans and destinations.
