Excess Reduction provides peace of mind.
In the event of an accident it reduces your financial liability to a manageable amount. Provided you comply with the terms of the rental agreement your financial liability for loss and/or damage to either the AAA Car Rental’s vehicle and/or third party property is limited to a pre-determined amount.
There are only three exemption for which the renter must take total financial responsibility. These events are detailed below.
We have 2 Simple levels of excess reduction with No hidden Fees or fine print just 2 easy to understand options. When you hire a car from AAA Car Rentals you are covered by our Motor Vehicle Insurance. However, there are 2 options offered to reduce your excess. The following is a guide to the different excess options available.
From the time you (or your nominated driver in the rental agreement) take charge of a rental vehicle, you are financially responsible for any loss or damage to the vehicle or any loss or damage to third party property as a result of using the vehicle.
The renter’s responsibility also includes damage caused by acts of nature such as hailstorms or falling trees. The liability (called an excess) varies depending on the category of vehicle and the age of the driver. The standard excess is a substantial amount but is still a small proportion of the value of the rental vehicle.
Your standard excess amount will be advised to you at the time of rental and will be shown on your rental agreement. Excess Reduction Provided you comply with the terms of the rental agreement, Excess Reduction ensures that for any particular loss or damage to the vehicle or third party property you will not have a liability greater than the reduced excess even if the damage was caused by your mistake.
This is genuine no fault protection. Excess Reduction is not an insurance policy but optional coverage which for a small fee reduces your standard excess liability and offers real value for money.
AAA MINIMUM Cover (Standard Excess $5500 Excess)
All cars hired by AAA Car Rentals include MINIMUM Cover for no extra charge. Our basic Motor Vehicle Insurance carries an excess liability of $5500.
This means that in the unfortunate event that the rental vehicle is involved in an accident or is damaged, you are liable for the first $5500 of any damage costs. As the renter you are liable for the excess regardless of whether you are ‘at fault’ or not.
If you would like only the MINIMUM Cover a $5500 hold will be placed on your credit card.
Option 1.
AAA EVERYDAY Excess Reduction
The EVERYDAY plan reduces your excess from $5500 to $3000.
As mentioned above, all cars hired by AAA Car Rentals include Motor Vehicle Insurance for no extra charge. However, you can choose to reduce your excess liability to $3000 with this option. By selecting this option you reduce your maximum excess liability to $2250.
As the renter you are liable for the excess regardless of whether you are ‘at fault’ or not. (Not available for rentals under 4-day duration)
Option 2.
AAA PLUS Excess Reduction
Our top plan AAA Plus reduces your excess from $5500 to a low $500.
With our PLUS excess coverage you can travel with peace of mind knowing that in the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle you’re maximum excess is only $500.
AAA PLUS Excess Reduction
AAA Plus reduces your excess from $5500 to $2000.
With our excess coverage you can travel with peace of mind knowing that in the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle you’re maximum excess is only $2000.

Please Note:
Drivers under 22 years of age will be asked at the time of booking how long they have held there licence.
In order to rent a car you MUST have been driving unsupervised longer than 12months.
